Fergus Pipe Band Contributes to the 2008 Masters of Curling Bonspiel in Waterloo, Ontario

The Fergus Pipe Band is proud to have been asked again to provide pipers and drummers for the Masters of Curling – Capital One Grand Slam of Curling held at the Waterloo Memorial Recreation Complex from November 12 – 16, 2008. The band also participated in this event when it was held in Waterloo in 2006.

This event attracted much attention from spectators and the media as this Grand Slam of Curling series are closely tied to the Canadian Curling Association’s qualifying process for the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver.

Fergus Pipe Band pipers led the high caliber field of curlers from across Canada on to the ice for the opening game in the round robin tournament. At the final game on Sunday the band marched on the Howard and Koe teams for what was to be an excellent nine end final game.

Curling and bagpipes have long been interconnected. Bagpipes, almost always heard at any one of the hundreds of curling bonspiels held across the country are the most obvious symbolic reminder of curling’s illustrious heritage. The Fergus Pipe Band regularly leads on the players at bonspiels held at the Fergus Curling Club - one of their major supporters.
