The first event was at ‘Our Lady of Lourdes High School’ in Guelph. Each year the school celebrates Flag Day by recognizing a Canadian for contributions in leading Canada. Under the leadership of Pipe Sergeant Chad Green, pipers from the Fergus Pipe Band led MP Justin Trudeau in to the auditorium to receive the ‘National Leadership Award’. Mr. Trudeau reminded the students that leadership is a process and that leaders are not always found at the front of the line. He suggested that as Canadians they should demand more of their leaders but first they should demand more of themselves.
The second event was at ‘St. Joseph Catholic School’ where two of our drummers currently attend school. Accompanied by a piper the drummers led dignitaries in to a gymnasium full of enthusiastic flag waving students, parents and teachers. Principal Lowell Butts, MP Michael Chong, MPP Ted Arnott and Mayor Joanne Ross-Zuj all addressed the assembly. Former Olympic athlete Jamie Cox delivered a key-note message to the students reminding them not to give up and to always try hard.
